  1. Dang it Corey!!! He played poorly today. The loss may be the best thing for us in the long run this year though.

  2. And as if USC wasn't bad enough with no PAC 10 Champ game, they get 2 bye weeks and play a reg. season game while the SEC and Big 12 are playing their postseason.

    Pfft.

  3. Chris Hetland has suffered through a horrendous season as Florida's kicker.
    Jason Parkhurst/US PRESSWIRE

LOS ANGELES -- Do you realize what’s hurting Florida the most in its attempt to procure BCS style points? Its kicker!

If you watched the Gators’ game against Florida State on Saturday, you’re aware that Florida absolutely dominated the ‘Noles in the first half, outgaining them 265 yards to 56. And yet, the Gators led just 14-0. Why? Because Chris Hetland missed two more easy field-goal attempts, pushing his season percentage to a ghastly 3-of-12 (with the three he’s made all coming from inside 30 yards). How bad must the backup kickers be that they keep trotting this guy out there? It’s painful.

The point is, perception is reality. A pollster who didn’t get to see the game and sees that 10-1 Florida beat 6-5 Florida 21-14 is inevitably going to downgrade the Gators. But what if it had been 20-0 at halftime instead of 14-0? Seems a little more dominant, doesn’t it? Maybe those two second-half FSU touchdowns don’t matter as much. Maybe you’re more willing to excuse a quiet second half for the Florida offense.

This is exactly why the regular season of college football is the best... and why I am against any playoff system.

  7. Regarding the NCAA SOS rankings... Arkansas has a 0.81 percentage which assures us of the #1 ranking at the end. The ESPN/ABC conglomerate of "experts" of course only look at the PAC-10 heavy computer SOS rankings such as sagarin.

  8. Just got done watching the FOX BCS release show.

Barry Alvarez, "BCS Expert," was the interviewee by the dork NFL guys after the afternoon games finished.

When asked if USC should lose to UCLA and Florida beat Arkansas, would Florida jump Michigan, he basically said no.

He also at one point in his interview basically just said the BCS is a "let's hope things don't get fuc&ed up" system by saying - "Let's hope that USC doesn't lose next week so we won't have to see what happens."

    Pfft.

  9. The biggest problem in my mind with not only the BCS, but voting, etc... is that a persuasion toward the best matchup is made, rather than a persuasion toward the best two teams in the nation.

The media is looking at who will play the most exciting game with OSU. If Baylor was coming out of the Big 12 undefeated, you'd be seeing the same thing.

Selling tickets, marketing and TV viewership trumps who deserves to be there.

That is what we have here.

And to close, Kirk Herbstreit can lick my hairy sack.

  10. Who would ever think that a mongoose could kick the crap out of a Cobra, but it does?

Maybe not as exciting as a Cobra vs. a Viper, but a match nonetheless.

  11. And no I was not comparing the Gators to Baylor, just saying that the media doesn't see it as an ideal matchup for $ making.

  12. CNNSI:

    1) Florida getting shafted would be the best thing to happen to college football: Before you jump all over me, Gators fans, I’m not saying it’s right, but a 12-1 Florida team that gets left out of the national championship game for USC or Michigan may be the BCS victim that finally causes change to the system. Why? Because SEC commissioner Mike Slive happens to be both the current BCS coordinator and the most outspoken proponent of a plus-one game. This would be twice in three years one of his teams gets left out. Second, Florida happens to be one of those glamour programs (no offense, Auburn) that people pay attention to, and they’ve got a high-profile coach and athletic director who will be screaming bloody murder. But most of all, the timing is right. At the time of the 2003/04 controversies, the BCS had more pressing issues on its plate, like a potential antitrust lawsuit and an expiring TV contract. With FOX in place and the championship game now a week later, the structure is in place to seamlessly add at least a plus-one.

  13. from what I gather "plus-one" is having 1st play 4th and 2nd play 3rd place and the winners playing a week later for the national championship.

  14. Dennis Dodd really hates the Gators. So much for love from our CBS SEC affiliate. This guy does need to get hit by a bus as I said last week. Look at second bold point.

  15. College Football News:

    It's just Notre Dame.

    By Pete Fiutak
    1. What, exactly, did USC do to suddenly make everyone soooooooooo certain that it’s number two? It blew out Notre Dame?! This just in to anyone paying attention: Notre Dame was overrated to start the season, it’s overrated going into the BCS, it was overrated last year. This is a team that got by over the last two seasons on a near-miss in a classic loss to USC. In other words, it’s Cal.

Michigan whacked the Irish 47-21 in South Bend. Fine, so the Irish beat Georgia Tech, who’ll probably win the ACC title, but the next best win this year was against, um, uh, Navy? UCLA? Remember that it took a miracle meltdown to beat the Bruins as well as Michigan State. This team has no secondary, no pass protection, and got by on bombing away and hoping for the best.

Don’t get me wrong; if USC beats UCLA, I’m 100% for the Trojans playing the Buckeyes for the national championship. It beat Nebraska, Arkansas, Cal, and yeah, Notre Dame,

I'm down with this -- and the plus one game was added to accomodate this in the future. I just don't know why they didn't do it in the present.

It has ALWAYS been this way guy! You are just now invested enough to get wrapped around that axle.

  18. I can see that marketing was more of a factor with the human polls deciding the game, but the cpus were supposed to eliminate that angle.

Always a loophole with the media involved though.

  19. There are still 2 human polls in teh formula and I think they are weighted 1/3 each.

  20. Proof that the PAC-10 is the best conference -- The BCS computer poll by jeff sagarin shows that the toughest 9 schedules (and 10 of the top 11) are all PAC-10 schools.

I totally understand now... the 1-loss SEC team should not go to the BCSCG over a more deserving PAC-10 team. The PAC-10 plays a brutal schedule.

  22. That was funny... this was obviously a jab at Bowden and Meyer respectively. I don' know about the Excel reference.

List any computer/technical skills. (Examples include: ability to converse with people on the eBay; experience text-messaging virile 16-year-old boys; Microsoft Excel)

  23. LOL - "Have you ever been convicted of a felony, associated with known felons or coached at Miami?"

Dunno Excel ref. either. I know the UW coach got booted for betting on March Madness - perhaps that was excel program sent on e-mail?
