I was just skimming through Gators in the NFL and never realized the Broncos had the most Gators on their team. Andra Davis, Jabar Gaffney, Chad Jackson, Darrell Jackson, Jarvis Moss, and Marcus Thomas. Was just browsing the whole Cutler trade and was wondering if Rex was still at Chicago and noticed that. Thought I would share it.
NFL teams would like for receivers' test scores to be about 18, but several of the top prospects fell below that mark. Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech scored 15, Darrius Heyward-Bey of Maryland scored 14, Percy Harvin of Florida scored 12 and Hakeem Nicks of North Carolina scored 11. The test result is particularly interesting in the case of Harvin, who will have more learning to do than the others based on the offense he played in at Florida and the fact he could be used in multiple roles. Jeremy Maclin of Missouri was outstanding by comparison with a 25 test score.
___
So all in all, the other WRs did not do much better and Maclin will be selected above Harvin anyway.
So unless you see that the ganja rumors do come out to be true, Percy should be the 3rd or 4th WR taken. Prospects are high on Heywood-Bey because he is a blazer.
Tyus to transfer and I don't think it's going too far out on the limb to say that Calathes will leave. Gator hoops is not so much these days. Donovan needs to shake things up or his sour face for low home attendance will not be a valid complaint anymore and will only continue to decrease.
An ESPN NBA Draft Analysts take on Calathes' stock:
Nick Calathes, G, Florida* Calathes has been terrific as a sophomore … upping his averages across the board from his freshman season. Scouts love his shooting ability, basketball IQ and floor leadership. There are questions about his ability to play point guard full-time in the pros.
Offensively he shouldn't have any major issues, but defensively he'll struggle against the quicker, smaller point guards in the league. Right now he's a late-first- to early-second-round pick. He could improve his stock a little in workouts, but with Calathes, I think scouts know what they are getting: a highly skilled guard who lacks elite athleticism.
Past two years in Gator hoops we have had two promising underclassmen transfer - Lucas and Tyus and have had one, but probably two leave after their sophomore years - Speights and Calathes.
It seems that the players have come to view UF as a dead end. Get your national exposure due to the fat TV contracts the SEC has and then either bolt to the NBA early or transfer because you don't have faith in a new class coming in that will elevate your stock.
Why would Calathes want to come back? He'd be better to play in Europe should he not get drafted. That's why Speights left. I can't blame them.
Unless Billy takes a different strategy, UF will turn back into just being a football school. It is unfortunate for Billy because all of that he has done for us, but with such a consistent and dominant football program I can't blame the fans for having a what have you done for me lately attitude.
I just read 11 transfers since 03-04 - ridiculous and obviously a sign of something. but
I think its hard to tell from our perspective what is going on behind the scenes, but i do know that we have been squeaky clean throughout it all.
When the profile gets raised to the level it did with the NC x 2, you get a different kind of kid that jumps on board, bandwagon kids that were AAU superstars and dont understand the need to be selfless.
I hope BD will go back to the recruiting formula that brought us Haslem and Horford types, and fewer Brett Nelson and Calathes types.
Duke had a swoon after 2x and Maryland has had trouble with the AAU kids. I think BD has become a better coach, but isnt as good at assessing talent in recruits. That may have alot to do with Pelphry and Grant leaving.
Billy Donovan spoke to the media for about 32 minutes on Friday, but it didn't take more than two minutes to pick up on Donovan's tone.
He's sick of this team's makeup. OK, so his three different references to "changing the culture" of the program gave that away. But seriously, Donovan doesn't seem to mind this year's cleaning of house -- three transfers, a botched letter of intent and Nick Calathes' probable bolt to the NBA -- because his team played no defense and didn't share his vision.
If he can land John Wall to accompany Kenny Boynton, now that's a vision.
The theme starts with a simple sentiment: "The big thing for us right now is trying to create a much much more competitive environment."
Then the sarcasm about success: "I’ve been part of conference championships and tournament championships and being part of the NCAA Tournament, I think I have a pretty clear vision and clear-cut understanding of what it takes to get to that level."
Then the reality -- that the Gators didn't lose much because they didn't have all that much: “We lost a player or two players off two NIT teams," Donovan quipped, as if to say "big deal."
Obviously Donovan wouldn't mind having Calathes back, and the Tyus loss hurts -- no other way around it. Tyus wanted to play the 3, the Gators need him at the 4. End of story. But the Gators can recover, as long as Kenny Kadji and Vernon Macklin produce. Losing Jai Lucas, 2009 signee DeShawn Painter and forward Allan Chaney probably won't sting in the long run.
The way Donovan is talking, don't expect Calathes to wear a Gators uniform again, though I still think there's a strong chance he'll be a second-round projection and return. Donovan said from what he's gathered from the NBA, Calathes is not a clear-cut first-rounder.
"But when you put your name in, it’s no like I’m feeling or thinking Nick would be coming back," Donovan said. “If Nick moves into the first round, I think he’s gonna go pro. Everybody thought clearly that Matt Walsh and Anthony Roberson were coming abck. They didn’t go in the first round and they still went. To me, because his name is in there, you have to guess he’s goign to go unless he changes.”
Some scouts have said Calathes was the best passer in college basketball last year.
"I do think Nick has a phenomenal skill that would translate up there – he’s a terrific passer," Donovan said. "Great vision.I think he’s got an incredible drive, great work ethic. As much as any body I’ve coached, he loves the game.”
It's a new era of Gators basketball, though we said that two years ago. Maybe it was time for Donovan to cut the fat and tighten the ship.
Watch that video of Billy Donovan on the same page with that article. It is better to hear him say all those things. He gets pretty animated and shows his Jersey accent off a bit. Interesting.
Finally hard news. Fuc&ing idiot. I have no sympathy for him if he slides to the second round. Love the guy, but sh!t...

Wide receivers Percy Harvin and Brandon Tate tested positive for marijuana during February's NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, two sources told FOXSports.com.
This probably will not keep Harvin from being a first-round pick, but it does reinforce the character concerns about him that have arisen in recent weeks. This seems to be yet another example of Harvin living in "Percy Land" and being oblivious to most of the rest of the world. Don't be surprised to see him last until the final five picks of the first round, which is a far cry from the mid-first round projection Scouts Inc. put on Harvin just a couple of months ago.
Prashaun Collins (Tampa,FL): Do you think the recent stories about Percy Harvin take him down to a 2nd round pick instead of a late 1st?
Matt Mosley: (10:20 AM ET ) I think there's a good chance of that happening, although I'm still seeing him projected late in the first. Extremely talented player. I had one personnel man tell me that Harvin was a lot like last year's second-round phenom DeSean Jackson -- in several respects.
Sorry havent been on since the O and B game. Not much to say about it because the 1st team D didnt even play. Brantley looked good and so did Hammond JR. They ran a few trick plays like reverses and half back pass. Didnt run anything from under center like they say they have been practicing. Im sure they didnt want to let anyone see anything new. R-A and Cassie left at half with Emma and they said they saw Tebow leaving on a golf cart towards the O-Dome. He didnt return till half way through the 3rd Quarter and didnt play at all the second half. There were no screens up in the stadium. So it kinda sucked because you couldnt watch replays. Thats about it.
Thanks Bruce... nice report. I heard that Tebow went to the sky boxes durinig half time to visit sick children. Maybe that is where he was headed.
Was the capacity more full than in years past or less? From the pics it looked like you were on the Alumni side, right? You say the screens were not up... were the boards completely removed or where the screens just not in them? Did they have the 2008 NC signage up yet? If so where?
Yea I am not sure where he went during half. The screens were removed basically a big whole where they should have been. It seemed less full then usual but they said it was near 50,000. We were in the same spot we have gone the past couple years high on the alumni side in the shade. It was actually kinda of cool out. The NC sign was up but it was in what seemed like a temporary spot in the middle of the two previous years.
Percy might start from day 1 with MIN. C.I. will probably rehab some more and then they will work him in the offense. He should be very productive with PHI. Murphy is stuck with the suck that is OAK.
Great Harvin press conference with the 49ers. Talks candidly about his relationship with Meyer and also how he felt about his "character issues" being out in the media.
I was not a Star Trek fan at all. I haven't seen any of the other movies. I watched the show on TV a little when I was a kid so I knew who the main characters were. It is definitely worth going to see even if you know nothing very little about Star Trek.

ReplyDeleteJAX was a haven for Gators until Mike Peterson left and Freddy T was released. Now they just have RFN I believe.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies to Derrick Harvey who also plays for JAX.
ReplyDeleteMercy Percy. :(
ReplyDeleteGet your head out of yer arse.
What did Percy do?
ReplyDeleteIt's all just rumors that have been going around for a week or so.
ReplyDeleterumors about him failing drug tests and being an x's and o's dufus.
