"A noticeable absence down the stretch was Florida sophomore point guard Nick Calathes, who was pulled for the final 2:44 after taking a quick 3-point attempt."
The SEC, well, what do you even say anymore after Wednesday? Kentucky simply had to win a home game against the worst team in the SEC (Georgia) to take at least some pressure off Saturday's game at Florida. Instead, the Wildcats gave up 90 points and lost.
So, too, did the Gators at Mississippi State, making it hard to argue against Kentucky-Florida in Gainesville, Fla., being essentially an elimination game -- for just the right to stay on the bubble going into the SEC tournament. There's only so many way you can dress up a resume that lacks much of the body of work the committee is searching for in selecting the teams.
The Gators have the chance to finish 8-8 in conference play where only one team, LSU, is ranked in the top 25 and still make the NCAA tournament if they should win the SEC tourney or get lucky and be a "last team in."
I of course would love for the Gators to make the "Big Dance," but with that resume even if they should win the SEC tourney, that is some lame ass stuff and just validates why the regular season in basketball is meaningless and why they need to stop talking playoffs in football.
Florida's football team dodged another bullet this week. Billy Gonzales turned down the Cleveland Browns new coach Eric Mangini, who was trying to hire him to the NFL.
Football coach Bobby Bowden was ready to enter spring football practices with 382 career victories, trailing Penn State coach Joe Paterno by one win on the all-time list. The sanctions will force him to forfeit all wins during which ineligible students competed in 2006 and 2007. It is not immediately clear how many games will have to be forfeited.
Not content with ruling all college sporting matters on earth, the University of Florida wants a jump-start on the afterlife, too. The school wants to establish a cemetary on its Gainesville campus for its most diehard fans, and it's working with state lawmakers in an attempt to set aside space for a Gator graveyard. In case you ever wondered if SEC football was a matter of life and death, now you have your answer.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that just a first round win over flipping Arkansas in the SEC tourney should put the Gators in the NCAA tournament with a possible seed chance to win their first game there.
They lose to Arkansas who won 2 games in SEC play, they deserve to walk home from Tampa.
Despite my sour pants, I am happy for the team for winning their last home game vs. KY.
Im going to have to disagree with you. I dont think 1 win in the SEC tourney is going to be enough for them to get in. They have to at least make it to the finals in my opinion. If you look at their out of conference schedule it is really weak. Just read this to understand. "Florida has two RPI top-50 victories, beating Washington (neutral court) and South Carolina (home). The Gators are 2-6 against RPI top-50 foes and 9-8 against the top 100. They have one very unsightly loss, falling 88-86 at RPI No. 188 Georgia on Feb. 14." Just my opinion from watching all season.
Just from what I heard from some insider source is that, if they win the SEC tourney they will make it to the dance without a doubt, just what I heard though so take it or leave. But really I think they have to make it to the finals to have any chance, anything less and its NIT for them again.
You can lose every single game all season, go the to the SEC tourney, win it and go to the NCAA tourney. All conference tourney winners get an automatic berth.
I shall ammend my previous post after having read substantial info. online and say that the Gators need to beat Arkansas and Auburn and they'll be in. Arkansas will not be enough since they are garbage.
Beating KY on Sat. was huge. KY opens with 7-9 Ole Miss and should they win, they have to play LSU.
Well obviously a tourney win is a lock, but as of now, there are very few SEC teams that are in. LSU is the only lock with UT, SoCa, UF and some others on the fence. Slive will pull some strings. I think two wins will put us in, but you know what they say about opinions.
well at least there is a silver lining to the suckage that was Nick Calathes in the SEC tourney. I believe that secured him not going pro. He was just awful.
I don't mean to be so hard on an person who is not getting paid to play, but Calathes - anti-clutch.
It is so frustrating to watch. He got outperformed by a 5' freshman, Walker, down the stretch of the regular season, in the SEC tourney and in most of the NIT games. Lame.
Most if not all of the NFL mock drafts I see show Harvin going 22nd to the Vikings. Can you imagine that guy on artificial turf for half of his games. That is 2006 SECCG sick!!!
To preface - I have not really watched all that much Gator bball these past two years. Honestly, really only the last few games of this regular season, the SEC tourney games and the NIT games.
That being said and this addresses Calathes testing the NBA waters, I know our team would be much much better if he were to come back, but I would say that the door is gonna smack him in the ass should he leave. I think he is nowhere near NBA potential and showed down the stretch that he was not an even all-conference player.
Seems to me that he has way more talent than Walsh, etc..., but pretty much the same selfish mentality.
In case I didn't make it clear, I'm not extremely high on him.
Calathes declared for the NBA draft. I dont think he will make it but good luck to him. Also Jaime the sad part is she represent the state of Florida and also the University of Florida. Very very sad.
Aw crap, I missed the basketball game.
ReplyDeleteBilly D can smell the NIT:

Mike Peterson signed with Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteI heard it on the insider board as well. The Gators win and they are in. You are wrong on this one Jeffrey... I gotta go with ChrisT here.
ReplyDeleteTory Davis used all 5 stars to make that 4th down goal line stop against OU. He's gone, but I'll take it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what hungry Spinosa said.

ReplyDeleteMario time for all!

ReplyDeleteTorrey Davis gone off team. UAA saying that choice to leave was his.
ReplyDeleteAlbeit the NIT, my team must remain the dominant team in my household. Gators vs. Canes is a possible matchup in the 2nd round in Gainesville.
ReplyDeleteGators NFL pro day is this Wed.
ReplyDeleteBig day for Harvin, C.I., Murphy, etc...
Wishing them well.
I had to call Jeffrey and tell him you were joking ChrisT. Sometimes The Peacock over analyzes things.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Rojas.

Here is a good link on information from the Pro Day today.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that rosenhaus said CI's knee "didn't test out well". There was no elaboration.
Did you see CI's Mickey Mouse gloves?
ReplyDeleteI am still the king of the castle with the Gator win over the Canes. Woot!!!
ReplyDeleteKiffin such a cock sucker watch this video

That woman in that video is embarassing.
ReplyDeleteBilly D to remain a Gator! It was closer than most think. Apparantly fan attendance has become a concern for him.
ReplyDeleteAnthony Grant officially the new coach at Alabama.

Just my two cents.
Haslem. 100th career double double today. Props!
ReplyDeleteBruce, watching that video was painful! Who decided that a woman who cannot speak English should speak in public?
ReplyDeleteCalathes declared for the NBA draft. I dont think he will make it but good luck to him. Also Jaime the sad part is she represent the state of Florida and also the University of Florida. Very very sad.
ReplyDeleteGotta love Noah.
ReplyDeleteWow, look! Udonis Haslem is 26th in the NBA in double doubles this year! Awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnd who is #1?
ReplyDeleteThat is superfluous.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you all make of this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkPyFQXWmj0
ReplyDeleteFunny stuff Jaime. How'd you find that?
