  4. Funny excerpt from an ESPN Tourney analysis regarding the Big 10.

    ___

Loved this e-mail from Noah in Chicago after I discounted the quality of the Big Ten in Monday's basketball blog: "Oh boy, you are in for a lot of e-mails on this topic. An NBA fan doesn't like the brand of basketball played in the Big Ten? SHOCKING! Perhaps you aren't familiar with concepts like getting back on defense, movement away from the ball and half-court defense? Big 10 basketball is like a Robert Altman film, or Russian hockey in the 1970s -- difficult to watch for a novice, but pleasurable for a connoisseur."

(Please note that those exact arguments are always made by women's basketball fans when they're defending the quality of play in the women's game ... once again proving my point, which is that watching the Big Ten was like watching an especially scrappy women's basketball game, only if the players occasionally dunked. Thanks for making my case for me, Noah.)

  5. I knew Duke would fall at the hands of Anthony Grant. Excellent!!!

    Congrats to him.

  6. Thank you 2nd half beatdown!!!

Dude, their point guard was 5'8"!!! It looked like he needed Santa's permission to be out their with the big trees.

  7. I agree Dustin... it appears to be the weaker bracket. We'll see how it plays out.

  8. Reports from New Orleans...

Obviously we were very unfocussed and maybe nervous the first half. Noone could hit anything from beyond 5 feet. Thankfully the second half was the opposite.

The Gator fan showing is not as I'd hoped. We appear to have filled 2 sections. Sporadic Gators can been seen here and there in the rest of the stadium. We did get fairly loud though in the 2nd half.

Bourbon Street is jumping and the rest of the Quarter is getting back to normal. Some of the businesses are still closed up, but it is back to business as usual for most. Don't hesitate to visit New Orleans and the French Quarter.

Don't have tickets for Sunday yet... wish us luck.

    Go Gators!!!

  11. Friday vs. Butler @ 7:15 p.m. ET

    Go Gators!!!

  12. Yeah, is that Verne Lundquist that keeps calling him "Cliff"?? Why doesn't his colleague call him out on it? Or maybe he does off-air.

Well, my Dad calls me Donna all the time... maybe it just happens to some folks.

  14. We need to get our energy back. These close games are killing me.

  15. Clutch FT shooting. That was huge!!!

  16. Plenty of extra Gator tix were availble before the Butler game. We already had tix.

As Bruce said, these close games are killing me! Butler was a scary team.

Since we played the first game it was easy for us to get tix from Butler fans during the second game. We got row 5 right behind the press row in the Butler section for tomorrow.

There are about 1500 hard core Gator fans here. Wish there were more, but it is slightly beter than New Orleans.

Butler fans were fun people... partied a bit with a few after the game at the Landing area outside the dome by the Mississippi river. Pretty cool brewery there.

Oh, and the Duck fans annoyed Rich all game long by running up and down the aisles in our way. I hope they don't annoy us tomorrow.

    Go Gators!!

  18. The University Athletic Association received 3,750 tickets, the same allotment received by the other schools that advanced to the Final Four. There Is NO GUARANTEE that all orders can be filled.

  19. I can go. However, I'm not down with the karma of me going. Still battling with that for right now, besides the obvious ticket situation.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Karma is a good point... one that I had not thought of. However, I went last year to the championship game and that was the only game I went to all year. My karma is good to go. Is yours?

    ReplyDelete
  21. James, I sense that your karma is strong and will carry us.

  24. There are larger matters at hand, albeit the storyline is intriguing. I have not heard anything about UK offering Donovan anything or contacting him yet.

If they do so before we hopefully win the National Championship, they are real arses for taking away from our great story and team.

That being said, I think the only matter that is fact is that Tubby Smith quit or was "forced out" or whatever and now it's just a media buzz.

For now and always what only matters is, Go Gators!!!

  26. A large number of UK fans are certain that it is a "done deal" as reported in catpause. Billy's been asked recently and he won't come out and say he is not going there. So it just fuels the fire. To be fair to him he should not have to think about it until next week. He should indeed get to think about it though as he deserves the chance to go if that is his wish.

I second P-Cock's point that this is all BS given our upcoming Final Four. That and that alone should be the focus. Billy should not have to answer all that BS.

I don't think UK would stoop that low. I think it is just the fans and media stirring it up.

UK will indeed offer next week though. That is certain.

All I care about right now is beating UCLA. Go Gators!!!

  27. TG is underated. His assist to turnover ratio is low, but he is calm under pressure like a deep sea rain.

I'll let Rich tell you his TG "Where the ladies at?" story from this weekend.

  28. Tubby Smith pulled a Steve Spurrier on us. Curses.

  29. This will be my last comment on the Donovan/UK situation, cuz I'm tired of it distracting me from the Glorious situation at hand:

I think if you change jobs intra conference without having been fired, you should have to sit out a year like the players do, however without pay. Probably more than a year since the coaches are compensated.

  33. "I love Florida," Donovan said. "My family is very happy here. I hope I can stay here as long as they'd like to have me. I don't know what else to say. I'm just focused on UCLA and people are focused on other things."

  35. From a Pat Dooley article in the Gville Sun:

"We've kind of turned Ohio State into Runner-up U., haven't we?" said Spurrier, a Gator alumnus.
