I like this hire. It is safe and the options are wide open. Going Defense, allows us to make that a constant in the program, which is key and at the same time allows us to be able to rotate Offensive Coordinators and styles vs being stuck with the spread or the pro-style, etc... The hiring of the assistants will be just as important as the head coach hire.
With him not just bringing "his" staff from Texas we can make an all-star staff and the team will really be coached by committee with Coach Boom keeping everyone in line.
I don't know if any of you got to see the press conference tonight. I got to watch a good portion of it. Muschap is definitely intense and I liked what he had to say. Talked a lot about character and recruiting the right kind of people. He said he has not hired any coaches at this point and has no time line to do it, he wants to make sure he gets the right people here. He said the offensive coordinators selection will of course be very important and he wants to go more pro style. He isn't sure if he will coach defense or will get a coordinator. He also wants a special teams coordinator.
Other info and random facts:
He's been talking to Meyer and will have him involved in some capacity with the program. Which although I like Meyer and think it's great he's staying in Gainesville, I do worry about how that will work out. It could be great or really bad, but I guess we'll see.
He owns a beach house with Jimbo Fisher.
He sounds like a workaholic, so hopefully he can hold up better than Meyer.
They caught Machen on camera taking a nap during the press conference.
$900,000 a year wasnt enough to buy your own beachhouse? i dont like the fact him and jimbo are buddies with that raise he better get his own beach house
Holgoron has taken a job at West Virginia. Muschamp said he wanted someone with NFL experience. I think the hire is gonna come out of left field just like the hire of Muschamp himself and be completely awesome.
I'm just gonna toss a name out there and see how it goes. I have not heard this name anywhere. OC hire of recently fired Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels. Worked under Saban as a graduate assistant at MSU and was the OC for the Patriots before going to Denver. That is my stab in the dark based on Muschamp saying he wanted someone with pro and college experience. McDaniels ran a pro-style offense.
Just looked it up and Bell played in only one game in the NFL and he went 5 for 5 for 75 yards and a TD. He has the highest career passer rating of any QB in NFL history.
I walk back my McDaniels hire. I forgot that part of the reason he was fired is that he did not report to the league his knowledge of an assistant illegally videotaping his opponent and being offered yet supposedly denying viewing it.
I don't think Muschamp will hire that dirt. A shame, cuz McDaniels could be a good fit.
I have full confidence that Muschamp is gonna hire someone great, and I probably won't even know who the hell he is.

They asked him if the beach house would be wagered over next November's game. He said "No".
ReplyDeleteC) So who do you guys think he will being in for OC?

ReplyDeletePicked up Aubrey Hill as receivers coach.
ReplyDeleteLoved Aubrey Hill when he played. Very solid receiver for Spurrier.
