I was worried in the first half. Vandy was in complete control and we couldn't do anything. They were playing great D. The second half was another story, but I'm not sure why. I suppose we stepped up our intensity, but actually it looked like Vandy backed off a bit.
"Swan song" is a reference to an ancient belief that the Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) is completely mute during its lifespan, but may sing one heartbreakingly beautiful song just before it dies.
This year we have the once-in-a-life-time opportunity to watch the swan song of the greatest basketball team in UF history. Once a championship team has moved on they live only in our memories. The starting players on the 1996 football team never took the field together again. Likewise, their counterparts of 2006 will never again play together as Gators. Taurean Green, Joakim Noah, Corey Brewer, Lee Humphrey, and Al Horford have given us something very special that we will probably never see the likes of again. Only 13 more SEC games remain of which we are only guaranteed 10.
Don't you realize? After that the next time you see an SEC game, it'll be with some other starting 5. The next time you cheer for these guys, it'll have to be for some other team. These kids, they want the best of stuff for us. But next year, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Next Year! This year, it's our time. It's our time this year. That's all over the second they make their final bucket.
Please remember to enjoy this team, because soon they will live only in our memories. Win or lose these games are special.
"We’re like the cops," Florida junior forward Joakim Noah said. "The college students are having a party, and we’re the cops, and we’re going to bust it. No more kegs. No more keg stands. We’re taking the kegs away. We’re taking everything away. No more party."
What are you guys planning for the SEC Mens Basketball Tournament its in atlanta march 8-11 me and mike were talking yesterday about making the drive up there any followers are any advice on tickets......
First half: Great minutes from Richard. It seemed Donovan was keeping his bigs on the bench even before the foul trouble which inevitably happened anyway. Kentucky turned up their D in the final 8 minutes and were given the benefit of the doubt by the refs as they were all over us. That's home court advantage. Key points from Green, that guy has ice in his veins.
I try not to be biased, but I felt that Horford & Noah got called for a lot of ticky tac fouls. Did not appear to be called the same the other way. They were over our back on the boards all day.
Good win and good test. I think we need some tough tests this regular season as I feel the SEC is a bit down this year and we may be getting an easier ride.
Overall, I felt that was a bad win. We play those guys in Gainesville in a few weeks and we win by double digits hands down.
I do agree that there were ticky tack fouls. The refs were terrible on all aspects especially for a big game like that. There were so many over the backs, travels and bad out of bounds calls... But hey, what can you do?
Terrible FT %. I can see that being our demise in the tournament if we aren't waxing our opponents. Also, I think we did a bad job of controlling the tempo. We were up like 16 and started slipping and just kept running up and down instead of collecting ourselves.
I would have loved to have seen that KY cheerleader get the team a technical for waving her pom poms in Noah's face. That would have been awesome!!!
Amazing comeback!!! Watched the first half. Did halftime and most of the 2nd half with the gf just checking periodically on the net. Saw we were up and just let it ride. Watched the final buck thirty.
Down 18 in the first 10. Ouch. They were shooting 80% though. I sort of want the Gators to lose a game here before the end of the SEC regular season to get them angry, but a comeback like that is just as much of a wake up call.
If you didn't watch, the Gators and the refs sucked major arse in the first half.
Happy V-Day. (Props to Heather for letting me watch the game :) )
Dod Gamn LF yahoo broadcast. The internection got hosed with like 10 minutes remaining when we were still down by like 6. When I got it back up again it put me back at the start of the file. That piece of junk does not support fast-forward!!! I still have not yet seen the last 10 minutes. From the box score it looks like Taurean Green really stepped it up.
It's getting a bit out of hand with these refs. How the fuck was that not a Tech on their coach slapping Noah?
There was no winning today for the Gators. Bad shooting, no paint presence, turnovers... Vandy shot the lights out. We played pretty pourous D.
All that being said, I'm glad we lost. Possibly one more to get us really pissed off and then make the run in the tourney. This reg. season stuff is what makes this just basketball.
Unsatifactory game for Horford and Noah. Horford had 13, but 11 from FT line. Pfft.
And no James William, they don't suck but it was like watching paint dry for most of the game.
Glad i was too hung over to go to the game. Just a bad game all around. Vandy was getting to many wide open shots and we could not hit anything, and how do you expect to win with 22 turnovers. Hopefully they realize now they cant just turn it off and on whenever they want, they cant get down big and expect to win everytime, especially with the sec tournament and march madness coming up
You guys said everything I was going to say. I would just re-emphasize that Vandy played awesome. We did play very poorly... sometimes you just need a wakeup call.
Oh, and that incident with their coach and Noah was ridiculous. Funny, but ridiculous.
ChrisT, wasn't it snowing up there on Saturday? Were the roads clear? How far is the drive?
Its been snowing up here off and on for the past month but it never stays on the ground for longer then a day. It only takes an hour to get to nashville, would of gone to the game but did not get in till about 4, so i was too tired to drive down there.
Noah said he wasn't bothered that Florida fell behind Ohio State in the polls. The Buckeyes, ranked second in both major polls, suffered an 86-60 loss last December at Florida. "It doesn't matter," Noah said. "I mean, who cares?"
Get yourself a new map. "Thank You Vandy" because the Gators secured the Eastern #1 seed last night which is 2 weeks out from the tourney. Thus I can buy my plane tickets knowing for certain which game they'll play in first. If I had to wait until their next game flights would be too expensive so I'd have to gamble on the schedule.
If anything, the sellout of 12,076 at the O'Connell Center seemed surprised Florida clinched the league so quickly. Many left before the postgame celebration that featured players cutting down the nets.
"When you leave early," Noah said. "Sometimes, you miss out."
This game was very similar to the first at Kentucky. See my comments on 2/10/2007 10:07:00 PM . The difference being that we had the home court this time and were getting the benefit of the calls. Plus we seemed to stay on the floor a bit better so as not to pick up those cheap fouls.
Of course our energy and D was better and our shooting a bit better. Everyone played pretty well. I think a lot of hit had to do with home court... our players obviously feel more comfortable in non-hostile environments. Luckily we have played our most hostile environments... none of the tourney games will have as unfriendly environments as our SEC road games.
Noah's energy looked MUCH better. TGreen played his clutch game. Everyone kept passing to Humphrey so he could get his shooting back. Corey played like Corey, Horford played like Horford (glad he is ok), Chris Richard had a good game like he did at Kentucky, and Hodge provided some good sparks and key 3s.
I tell you though, our suckage at the FT line better get damn better or we better keep the hype like in today's game so it won't matter, or we are toast.
Yes, glad Horford is aight. Solid play from all around, most importantly Noah bringing the N'Dongo power back to our team at the right time!!!
Just to prove how hard it is to play on the road in the SEC, almost three teams went undefeated at home. Florida, Tennnessee and Vandy lost their last home game or they would have been undefeated at home.
Anthony Grant's Virginia Commonwealth Rams defeated last year's Cinderella whom we squashed, George Mason, in their conference championship game to earn an auto NCAA bid. Good for him. George Mason will not be dancing this year.
Kind of embarassing when your men's team is a possible #1 seed in the tourney and your women's team finishes the season 9-22 overall and just 2-12 in SEC play. If you didn't know already, the UF women's hoops head coach was Zooked about a month ago and finished the pathetic season out.
As James has said all year round. Enjoy this team. UCONN, a number 1 seed a year ago, just finished their season bowing out in the first round of their conference tournament and finishing 17-14 going to the NIT.
I was worried in the first half. Vandy was in complete control and we couldn't do anything. They were playing great D. The second half was another story, but I'm not sure why. I suppose we stepped up our intensity, but actually it looked like Vandy backed off a bit.

Nine more regular season SEC games remain. 9.
This is my wish and it didn't come true, and I'm taking it back, I'm taking em all back.
ReplyDeleteUp by 16... looking real good so far.
ReplyDeleteGreat win. I hope Brewer is ok... that looked VERY bad, but he did get off the court on his own.
ReplyDeleteThat's one bad thing about watching these guys... I constantly find myself cringing every time they go up.
In the post game presser Billy D said Corey "is fine and will play the next game". Amazing. That guys is one elastic freak.
ReplyDeleteDid not watch, but saw we whooped their arses. Was at Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond...
ReplyDeleteAl Horford is such a monster.
Yes, Corey Brewer is Elastic Man. Glad he's fine!!!
I don't know how you find the time.
ReplyDeleteAmazing -- BREWER OK
ReplyDeleteForward Corey Brewer practiced Monday and had no lingering affects from a knee bruise he suffered in a fall late in Saturday's game against Tennessee.
"It scared me at first," Brewer said. "I just hoped nothing happened really bad. Now, I'm fine. I'm just relieved. I'm 100 percent."
Brewer admitted he probably shouldn't have put his body in harm's way that late in a 17-point game.
"It's kind of hard to do when you're just playing basketball and you know, you're just trying to make a play," he said.
Uh... that is a bit scary.
ReplyDeleteGo Gators!! Beat those Dawgs! Oh, and Dang SUN-TD.
ReplyDeleteGoing to eat chicken wings, drink beer and watch the Gators!!!
ReplyDeleteGlorious!!!
How were the wings & beer?
ReplyDeleteGlad to see Corey have no ill effects of that injury. Really amazing.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I could not watch since it is TD, but I got to listen the the last few minutes and thanks to the P-cock I got play-by-plays as needed.
That is correct!!!
ReplyDelete15 Honey Mustard Wings, 1 Bud Light, and 0-2 on instate basketball games on TV at a sports bar. (Gators and Heat) Lonely. All hail the Internet.

ReplyDeleteWhat are you guys planning for the SEC Mens Basketball Tournament
ReplyDeleteits in atlanta march 8-11
me and mike were talking yesterday about making the drive up there any followers are any advice on tickets......
That trip is in the back of my mind, but right now I'm leaning towards not going. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteYou guys should absolutely go. I know that Rich was talking about going since he is in Atlanta.
Let me check on tickets...
Tickets are still available through the SEC ticket office, but when you buy there you buy all 11 games.
ReplyDeleteA few are available already on ebay.
If you just want to go to the Gator games you might want to just scalp those select ones.

Good win and good test. I think we need some tough tests this regular season as I feel the SEC is a bit down this year and we may be getting an easier ride.
You may have seen the story on the 04s on College Gameday tonight. Here is the article on the same. It has some differnt info.
ReplyDeleteFunny article about Brewer catching on fire in their dorm room.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I felt that was a bad win. We play those guys in Gainesville in a few weeks and we win by double digits hands down.

We almost gave that game away at the end. They almost made three 3s in 18 seconds!!!
ReplyDeleteThat game goes to OT, we lose.
ReplyDeleteOur hands were tied without Noah and Horford being able to play. We could not play our game.
ReplyDeleteAmazing comeback!!! Watched the first half. Did halftime and most of the 2nd half with the gf just checking periodically on the net. Saw we were up and just let it ride. Watched the final buck thirty.

Witnesses Say UF's Powell Swung At Fan
ReplyDeleteVandy's coach on the incident with Noah:
"Joakim's a competitor, and so am I," Stallings said when asked about the incident.
BD says he would have done the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThat's dissappointing. I'd have rather he said nothing.
Its been snowing up here off and on for the past month but it never stays on the ground for longer then a day. It only takes an hour to get to nashville, would of gone to the game but did not get in till about 4, so i was too tired to drive down there.
ReplyDeleteNot that I care about rankings, but how the fudge is OSU ranked ahead of us when we kicked the tar out of them. Yes, the tar!!!
ReplyDeleteNoah said he wasn't bothered that Florida fell behind Ohio State in the polls. The Buckeyes, ranked second in both major polls, suffered an 86-60 loss last December at Florida. "It doesn't matter," Noah said. "I mean, who cares?"
ReplyDeleteFYI... we have a flight on hold to Atlanta for the SEC Tourney, so I am probably going to go. I will decide for certain by this weekend.
ReplyDeleteEveryone should go that can make it. This team is special win or lose.
SEC Regular season champs!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Vandy!
Purchased the flights. We WILL be in Atlanta for the tourney!
ReplyDeleteGo Gators!!!
James Mulford - "Thank You Vandy"
ReplyDeleteThat implies we needed them to win the title. If we lose our final three games, we can say "Thank You Vandy, but it's really "Thank You Gators!"
How much are SEC Tourney tix? I might drive up.

Just ugly nothing more to say. Need to get it together before the tourney.
ReplyDeleteBruce Pearl and Pat Summit are the greatest!!! I shed tears.
ReplyDeleteYou will be able to hear birds chirping and pins dropping at the O'Dome vs. Kentucky after these spectacular performances.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say there won't be many people sleeping out for that game.
Major suckage to these recent Gator performances. (James, I did not say these Gators in general)
{Just shaking my head} Come on guys.

ReplyDeleteWhich team beat Vandy at home?
ReplyDeleteAs indicated by numerous websites...
ReplyDeleteArkansas beat Vandy on Sat. on Vandy's last home game. They beat them by 15.
Wasn't questioning it... just being lazy and asking.
