  4. Ruth-Ann, did you meant to post the same link for both of your posts? They are both about the Kearse injury... unless I skimmed the articule too quickly and missed something.

  7. How good was the Bears' Rex Grossman yesterday? Good enough to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors from SI's Peter King-and this in a week that featured several standout performances. "There are very good days, and there are brilliant days," King says. "Grossman [left] had the latter in Chicago's rout of the Lions: 20 of 27 for 289 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. His touch passes were things of beauty, particularly the high-arcer to a diving Bernard Berrian in the second quarter. Seems everyone wondered when Brian Griese would take over this team. Try never."

  9. Unlike the acc refs the PAC-10 refs actually owned up to the errors. Just like the SEC refs did in 2004 with the clock incident after the Dallas Baker fiasco. acc refs had an agenda. No one can save that pitiful conference this year though.

  10. Rex Grossman is playing better than P. and E. Manning. Good for him, cuz he's been under fire his entire NFL career, only because he's been injured.

  11. Emmitt looked good again tonight. Him and Jerry Rice did a pretty funny sketch talking smack about each other on Sportscenter today.

  12. Tyrone Prothro owes it all to his stellar coach Mike Shula for trying to run up the score. Way to go coach.

  13. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that kid's career is over Chris. Very sad. With that said I think he was too small for the no fun league.

  14. Interesting Herbstreit chat.

Juice (Gainesville, FL): How is it Florida State has recruited top high school running backs in the past several years and yet they have no running game? Ideas?

Kirk Herbstreit: (3:08 PM ET ) Well, the easy answer seems to be falling on the shoulders of Jeff Bowden. It seems like fans and media have gone from blaming Chris Rix for four years to now Jeff Bowden for the last few. I personally think the offensive line play has been very inconsistent. Last year the number of injuries and now this year just not executing very well. I also think the quality of playmakers at wide receiver has gone down in recent years in Tallahassee. When teams don't fear the vertical threat of an offense, it's easy to load up to stop the run. With all that said, who left on their schedule will beat Florida State until they play the Gators? They've already played Miami and Clemson and they don't play Virginia Tech. They get Boston College at home. Who left will beat them, until Nov. 25?

Kirk Herbstreit: (3:09 PM ET ) The Noles should be 10-1 when they host the Gators, with all those "concerns" on offense.

Jamie (Reidsville, GA): With the great recruiting job Urban Meyer is doing in Florida, do you see them in the national title and winning it in the next 5 years?

Kirk Herbstreit: (3:14 PM ET ) First let me just say how impressed I was with Urban Meyer and the Gators this past Saturday night in Knoxville. To be down by 10 points midway through the third quarter at Neiland Stadium with 100,000 people on top of you, and then to come back and find a way to win tells me a lot about how far this program has come in the second year under Urban. He's talked about mental toughness from Day 1 and his team demonstrated that they have that now with that win in a hostile environment.

Kirk Herbstreit: (3:17 PM ET ) There's no doubt in my mind that the Gators are and will continue to be national title contenders under Urban. The problem this year is their schedule. Even with the win at Tennessee, Florida in a three-week stretch, plays Alabama and LSU at home and then goes to Auburn. Then if they're lucky enough to survive that, they've got Georgia in the Cocktail Party and finish the year at Florida State. If they somehow survive ALL THAT, it's just another routine game in the SEC championship, in a likely rematch against Auburn. No team to ever put on a football uniform in the history of the game should be asked to survive a schedule like that. But then again, I guess this is life in the SEC.

Kirk Herbstreit: (3:19 PM ET ) By the way, while I'm thinking about it, a couple of observations, please nobody ask who has the best conference in football this year. There is the SEC and then everybody else. Secondly, Auburn, congratulations on the win, but my friends, the best defense in the country hails from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Auburn won the game, thanks in large part to playing it at home with a vocal fan base. The thing that I walked away with was that Auburn deserved credit for finding a way to win, but LSU's defense is scary.

steve pa: Hey herbie, love the new 2 hour gameday. Also glad to see you are off the ND bandwagon. Anyways, which game on the remainder of the schedule should I circle on my calendar as a cant miss game???

Kirk Herbstreit: (3:25 PM ET ) I'll give you three. First, Florida-LSU Oct. 7. Florida at Auburn Oct. 14. And after last week's performance by the Wolverines in South Bend, Michigan at Ohio State Nov. 18.
